"If you can make it here..."

As is our nature, the K&K team made a Fourth of July trek up to the Empire State to visit Bruce's family, and chew on the Big Apple. Gayle, Bruce's sister, had a graduation party for her son, Jesse, who recent graduated from high school. They live in Carmel, N.Y., about an hour from LaGuardia. It was really fun. They had a cookout, pool games and we enjoyed some New York-style bagels for breakfast. Umm umm. The Aprile's are New Yorkers through and through, and even told me I shouldn't talk if we hailed a cab because of my accent. Grand Central Station It turned out, we navigated the subway so well, we didn't need a cab. And that saved us at least $35 getting back to LaGuardia. The highlights were the Carnegie Deli, a NYC stalwart... ... we shared a club sandwich... ... Famous Ray's Original Pizza in Greenwich Village ... You can't pass through NYC without grabbing a copy of the Post and Daily News We bumped into Mayor Bloomberg outside of the restaurant, Hell's Kitchen, on our way to the Hudson River to watch fireworks. Now, it was no Thunder over Louisville. But it was fun to take in the diverse atmosphere, a melting pot if you will, of New York. Sunset before fireworks on the Hudson River We had a hot dog and pretzel from a street vendor in Times Square, and even found some friendly city slickers who offered us help with directions. While the temperatures rose near 100 degrees during our stay, we were glad to get back to the Peach State and away from the concrete and glass buildings.
