Uncle Tour '08 2nd half ... then back in Anderson

After slacking on my posting promises, here are some long awaited pictures from the second half of Uncle Tour ’08, along with a few from Saturday’s trip to the Braves game with Crystal, Mike, and Richard.

The second half of UT08 featured plenty of water balloons, bubbles, and beans (as in green beans, by the dumptruck load). We had our annual Shelbyville Open with AJB, Pops, Jimmy, and Uncle Keith at Cypress Run (PBRs included!) But before then, AJB had to get a lesson from his swing coach, Pops. Whatever he learned certainly translated to the tee as Big Shot Bridges launched the driver 300 yards-plus, with a trajectory that he had to clear with local air traffic controllers.

Even though Abigail proved to be a low maintenance rug rat, content to play with rocks and puddles, Uncle Keith tried a blatant attempt to win over a vote in his Uncle of the Year quest, with water balloons and bubbles. If only he could make next week’s meeting between the voters, that UOY trophy could be engraved.

Fourth of July Fireworks came on a cool evening, so Hannah had to be bundled up like it was a crisp fall day. But Dawn, Suzanna, AJB, Uncle Keith worked together to set up the fireworks and the ooohs and aaahs.

Other photos include my trip to the Reds-Pirates game with Joe, in which Ken Griffey Jr. set off fireworks with a walk-off home run in the ninth inning, No. 603 of his career.

In Anderson news, the crew has taken to playing a lot of dominos lately. We also went to church Friday night for a home group appreciation dinner. And I rode a mechanical bull twice! At least for a few seconds. Football season is just around the corner with the first official day of practice Aug. 1. Most teams are doing informal conditioning and workouts in the morning and evening.

you bundle up like it's October.

Great post, Uncle Keith! We had so much fun visiting with you and Pops and you covered all the fun in this entry. We'll make sure to serve up some of those green beans when you head back to Hoosierland around Christmas.

Thanks for the rundown! We'll let you know how the "Uncle of the Year" voting goes next week. It will be hard to beat such a cool bachelor uncle! You are in the lead, but if Uncle Andy B. can get Clara to not scream around the animals, and perhaps even hold a cat, he may pull ahead! (Extra points if he gets her to pet a dog) :)

True, true, Uncle Andy B. has a knack with the animals. I'm sure he'll be trying to win Clara over. BUT, don't discount Uncle Andy H. just yet: he will be arriving in a van! Lately Abigail thinks that vans are so cool and she even tells me that our car is "our van." Hmmm, has Polk been talking with her about the wonders of a minivan??
