Here she is, preparing to catch the bus at our friends' house on the first day.
Through the week Abigail told us a little here and a little there. There are 22 kids in her class and for some activities they are grouped by shapes. She is a purple rhombus, when she told Andy that he said, "A what???" Cracked me up! This week she learned the rainbow order abbreviation "ROY G BIV" and carefully explained to me that violet is a shade of pale purple.
By the time the weekend came, she was so fired up to show us the playground at Needham Elementary. Recess, for every elementary school kid, is such an important part of the day. The stories about recess time let us know that our predictions had come true: Abigail is the self appointed social worker/counselor of the Needham kindergarten. Two days this week she has comforted an upset child and invited them to play. She has such a sweet soul and Andy and I truly envy her tender spirit. She knew that those children were sad and they needed to see a friendly face, so she brought it! I don't know when I've been so proud of her.
Hannah misses Abby, but overall, she is doing so well on her own with Polk. She plays pretend for a big part of the morning, sometimes runs an errand and then it's time for lunch, nap and then to go pick up Abbs and go home. In a way, it's really great for each of them to have their own routine. They have so much to tell us when we get home!
We had a great time playing at the school playground! Abbs told me she could do the monkey bars all by herself but today, she couldn't make it. That's okay though, she's taken on a bunch of new experiences this week, most of them totally in stride. We are so proud of our big girl, and so excited for the fun she'll have at school this year!

That's great! I love the close up pictures on the playground!
Another big step that only I have seen is the change in carpool. After pre-school children are hand delivered by their teacher who holds their hand and puts them in their car seat! This year her name is called by a teacher 10 cars back and she walks out by herself and looks for Hannah and me, puts herself in her booster and closes the door herself. So grown-up!!
Glad to hear everybody is adjusting to the new schedule. Sounds like you and AJB are having the toughest go of it. It'll be old hat by Halloween.
